Persistent tooth pain or discomfort

What are dental fillings?
At MK Dental and Implant Clinic, we often
recommend fillings when we identify cavities or cracks in your teeth during a check-up. The filling seals the damaged area, preventing further decay and allowing your tooth to function as it should.
The procedure is straightforward and minimally invasive. We’ll numb the area with a local anaesthetic, so you’re comfortable throughout. Most fillings are quick to complete in around 20 minutes, so you can
get back to your day with a healthy smile.

Inlays and onlays: a strong solution for extensive tooth damage
Keeping your smile healthy for the long run
Your dental fillings questions answered
What’s the difference between a filling, inlay, and onlay?
A dental filling is used to treat smaller cavities where only a part of the tooth is affected. An inlay, on the other hand, is ideal for damage to the centre of the tooth, and fits neatly inside it. If the damage extends to the raised parts of the tooth, we use an onlay. Onlays are a bit larger and cover more surface area, restoring the tooth’s full structure.
How long do dental fillings, inlays, and onlays last?
Fillings can last for several years, but inlays and onlays are generally more durable and can last much longer. With proper care, inlays and onlays can stick around for 10 to 15 years, giving you a long-lasting, functional fix. However, how long they last really depends on how well you look after them, so brushing, flossing, and regular check-ups are important.
Will dental fillings, inlays, or onlays hurt?
You might feel a little pressure during the procedure, but don’t worry, we use local anaesthetic to numb the area so you won’t feel any pain. We also make sure you’re as comfortable as possible during the treatment. Once the anaesthetic wears off, you may experience a bit of sensitivity, but that should go away within a few days.
How can I take care of my dental fillings, inlays, or onlays?
After your treatment, you’ll want to keep up with regular brushing and flossing, just as you would with your natural teeth. We also recommend routine check-ups and cleanings so we can make sure everything is holding up well. Avoid biting down on very hard foods for a little while, and be mindful of anything that could put extra pressure on your dental work.
